What we aim for
We aim for WCAG 2.2 level AA on this site and in the app.
What is true of the design today
- Type chosen for legibility: Atkinson Hyperlegible, designed with the Braille Institute so that letters such as 0 and O, or 1 and l, stay distinct.
- Touch targets of 44 pixels on touch screens.
- A visible focus ring on everything you can reach with the keyboard.
- Light and dark themes, following your system unless you pick one.
- Reduced motion respected: when your system asks for less motion, nothing scales or moves.
- Colour is never the only signal: every state has its own shape and words as well.
- Contrast checked in code: every text and indicator colour pair in the design tokens is tested against its WCAG 2.2 contrast minimum, in both themes, on every change.
How it is checked
The contrast test above runs on every change. Before this site changes, every page is rendered in a real browser at phone, tablet and desktop widths in both themes, and the check fails if a page scrolls sideways or its heading is missing. Screen reader passes will be listed here once they are part of every release.
Known gaps
None recorded yet. When we find one, it is listed here with what we are doing about it.
